Comments on our video

In class today we watched a few of our music videos, and we gave three or four comments about each others. For our music video, the comments that we received were that people really liked the flash montage that we put at the end of the video. They also liked the fact that we had a narrative enigma. And the last one was that they loved the story line and it kept them really interested throughout the music video.

Audience Feedback

Overall, I would say that I am very pleased with the feedback that we have received so far. Everyone seems to really like our music video, and they seem to understand the story line which is what I am most happy about because I wasn’t sure people were going to understand it.

Finished CD Digipack

Here is our finished CD Digipack. I have made it on Photoshop, by re-sizing images and adding text. It was a really fun task because I am trained in Photoshop because of my photography course.

After effects

On friday, Sophia and I spent time with one of our media and film techs. We sat down and he taught us about after effects. Our final video is cut, so its time to start making it look nice. What we needed to do, is were the video cuts in to the narrative and the different scenes, we need to blank out the side, so it gives it a clear and clean cut look. This is a very time consuming thing to do , but we have almost finished!

Website

Nobody's Boys Website!
I have spent the last few days creating a website for our band. I thought that we should go for a minimal design for the website.

This the home page, and there a few pictures of the band that you can flick through to get a feel for the band
This is the tours page, which shows the fans where and when the band are touring
This page is called About us. It says a little bit about the band, where they come from around the world and how they met.
And this is the contact us page. It gives the fans and costumers all the details for their social networking and record label. There is also a space to 'drop a line' and to say something to us.

Evaluation of music video shoot

  • The day before our shoot, we had access to the media studio in the afternoon so we built our three wall set. We also got all the props together and organised them in order of the scenes that we were going to be shooting in, so everything was set and ready for the day! We also printed up our calling list and shooting schedule to make sure we could get shooting as soon as possible in the morning and were organised on the day.
  • When I woke up on the day of shoot, I felt like we were prepared so I wasn’t too worried or nervous. We had done a lot of preparation the day before so we knew what we had to get on with when we got to school.
  • We were extremely well prepared by the time we started shooting. The only things we needed to do was make sure that all the sets were ready to be swapped over each scene and before we started shooting, we needed to do our actors make up and make sure their costumes were all correct and suitable.
  • We felt that all of our sets were very realistic and well organised which is what we were going for. The first scene we shot was the graduation. This was a very simple set with blank walls and a camera.
  • In the group, we all had different roles. Charlie was on the camera filming, I was taking notes throughout the day and I did the play back, Sophia did all the make up, photography and did some camera work and Liv was doing the play back sometimes and was filming with the camera on the tracking shots. We all brought props in for the set.
  • I think that I took thorough notes, that I could reflect back on at the end of the day, making sure our shoot was a success. The notes have also helped a lot with our evaluation.
  • The main problem we had on the day was time. We were shooting on a friday which is the shortest day of the school week, we finish at 16:30 instead of 18:00. This was annoying because it meant we had a limited amount of time in the studio and we wanted to go on location in the afternoon to shoot our band. Because of the time issue, we had to cut the classroom scene and we had to change the location shoot to on set in the studio instead of in the barn. We ended up doing the band shoot in the studio with a white minimalistic set, but it still looks good!
  • I dont think that we had a specific scene that was more successful than the others. It all went really well.
  • The one part of the shoot that I wish went better, was the fact that we didn’t get to go on location. In the afternoon we were scheduled to go to a barn to shoot the band. We unfortunately didn’t have enough time. So we had to make different plans to shoot the band. It still turned out well, but it was slightly disappointing.
  • I think that as a group we organised our actors well and we didn’t have any problems with them. We casted them to make sure they were going to be easy going and not too high maintenance.
  • The part of the shoot that I enjoyed the most, was shooting the band. I think that it was an exciting, up beat and exhilarating atmosphere. It was the easiest to shoot too as the band were straight forward and the lead singer knew his words perfectly. This was the shoot that went the best for us as a group.
  • I think that our production group worked so well as a team. We all agreed on everything that we did, and there was no arguments or complications. We all shared the roles through out the day and there was no specific person leading the way.
  • I think that the lesson I have learnt, from shooting my music video is that you need to work hard as a team to get stuff done. You need to be extremely well prepared the day before and have your cast 100% confirmed before you start shooting. These are the most important things that I took from my shoot.
  • Overall I am really happy with my group, and how we worked together. We got everything that we needed to do done and we all contributed to the day.

Costume confirmation

This is the costume that we are going to use on the day. We want to keep it realistic and simple for the actors. All the costume will be provided by us apart from the boys outfits. We will have a meeting with each member and discuss what is needed for the shoot. We will try and provide as much as possible for the girl as we have a lot of it in our closets. The boy will also need to provide his costume too

Test Shoot

On monday we did a test shoot with our lead singer in our band -Harry Lawtey. We did a short piece with him lip-synching to our song ‘Naive’. We then took a couple of stills on one of the locations where we would like to do our photo shoot.

Here is the test video:

Here are photographs from the photoshoot:

Photo shoot

We have come up with three locations we would like to shoot for our CD and digi pack:

The Studio:

This is a clean shoot against a white background. This photograph focuses on the band without any distractions. The boys can be messing around (like in this photo) to show the audience that they do have fun and aren't always serious.

The Roof Top:
One of the best things about Hurtwood is the view that we have looking over the country. We think that having the boys on a roof top shows a bit of a rebellious side, but also that thoughtful side as it is quite peaceful and where they can be alone with their music.
They may have their instruments here.

In the woods:

This is an organic artist location. It is keeping in touch with nature and not getting caught up with all the synthetic makeup and the synthetic life.
We want to get across how chilled they are as a band. Possibly having one member smoking. Although this may come across as something that would detract audience members, it's that look that shows that they are good boys slightly turned.

Preparing for shoot!

The shoot is 2 weeks away, so we need to make sure we are on top of everything and everything is ready to go! Here is a shooting schedule and a call sheet:

Call sheet:
 Shooting Schedule:
We have a problem with our shooting schedule because we have worked out that we don't have enough time in the day to shoot everything and to go on location. On a friday we finish school at 16:30 and we are not due to finish in the studio until 15:00 which is a problem because we dont have time to get to the barn! Therefore we are potentially going to have to go and shoot on location another day. We will just have to see how the shoot goes on the day

Emailing and confirming our casting

Evaluation of Anamatic

A very good thing about our animation is, that it is very clear which gives us a good idea of what we need to do and we know what we need to work on.

This arrow pointing towards the door, tells the person who is acting in this specific shot that they need to walk to that door and exit through the same door. It is stuff like this which makes the animation a lot clearer and it gives us a very clear idea of the music video

But to make it slightly more clear we need to add some insert shots and loose some shots because we have taken out a few of the scenes to cut the music video down and to make it less scenes to shoot in one day. We will also probably change some of the order of which the scenes come in so that they are in a linear storyline rather than a random order.
We do not have any star image shown in our animatic because it is not detailed enough and it doesn't have any colour-which is an area we could have worked on to improve our animatic.

As a group we have learnt that editing is a major  part of our production of our product and it is also very important and time consuming.

Schedule for shoot-FRIDAY 15TH NOVEMBER 2013

Location

  • We are shooting the band scene in Sophia’s empty barn. We have permission to do this from Sophia’s parents and our teachers.
  • We are going to need to go and check it out and do a recky to see what sort of lighting that we are going to need, and we need to do a risk assesment. Sophia’s house is only 15 minutes from school so we can go there and do this anytime which is handy!
  • This is the only ‘location’ out of the studio that we are going to use.

Props & Costumes

We are buying al of this online and getting it delivered in time for the shoot.
We are also going to need a makeup artist to make the main character look younger and older and the cost is not included in this because we do not know how much it is going to cost yet.
The extras in our music video are going to be wearing their normal school clothes and we are going to ask the main boy to bring in one of his suits.
Overall this is all doable :)

Meeting with our set designer

Last week my group and I had a meeting with Scott, our set designer.
Our shoot day has been confirmed as: Friday 15/11/13.
The feed back on our sets and scenes are:

  • It can’t be non-linear it has to have a storyline or it won’t make sense.
  • They like the idea of using Sophia’s barn as the empty space that the band are going to play in but they Would need to have recky trip, to checkout lighting and to find out what they are going to need.
  • We are going to use the studio for the classroom scene instead of an actual classroom.
  • Graduation: Rather than having it on the stage with her walking on and collecting her diploma we have changed it her having her photo taken in front of a blue screen with her diploma in her hand.
  • Dinner scene:We need to buy some champagne for the table to dress it up a bit. They think that we should have the dinner and proposal/marriage at the same time and they should both look very smart
  • We are going to get rid of the library, marriage and hospital because we don’t need them and they are too many sets in build in a short amount of time.

Overall our meeting was productive and we are beginning to get excited about our shoot and building the set all together.

Evaluating our story board

  • My group and I have just finished our story board and it took us about 2 weeks to complete. It was really important to us that we did our story board because we needed to visualise our music video to give us information on the props and costume etc and it really helped us to develop the planning that we needed to do for the video.
  • The process of creating a story board is that you get given clean sheets with four shot boxes and space on the right to write information about the shot and what is happening in it, like the timing , action, lighting and sound. You fill in all this information and draw the action that is happening including the outfit that the person or thing is wearing, in the left hand box to inform you and create an image for you to work around. It creates a visualisation of the shot and creates ideas for you.
  • The story board constructs an understanding of the performance that we are trying to get across to people. It shows people the sort of theme, and idea that we are going for. This is good because it also gives us a clearer picture of our idea and it lets us visualise our music video.
  • We then filmed our story board to edit and put together to create an anamatic for us which creates a much clearer picture of the music video, highlighting areas for us to work on. We did this in the studio at school and it worked really well and all our shots were in focus and clear.
In total everything is going really well so far (touch wood.) I would say that we could have improved on our drawings in our story board a bit more and we could have mad a bit more effort on them and spent more time doing them but we wanted to make sure that we didn’t get behind as we had the longest story board in the class and we didn’t want to fall back behind everyone!
