Another story board..

when we realised that we needed to change our prelim, we started a rough copy of another storyboard. Today we have been building
on our story board and thinking about all the shots we are going to use. Now from this we can see the changes clearly and draw in what we were changing.

Discussing new research

Today we discussed our prelim again thinking and talking about the new research we had done. We then decided that there are still lots of things that we can improve and we should change. By using our research we thought that we can film it differently to how we had it originally . We are thinking of flicking backwards and forwards between the guy who is buying the cigarettes and the main character (the guy that gets poisoned). We thought this way it will make it clearer to the audience who they should be following. At first we were just focusing on the pass over of the cigarettes, as it is the poison being carried on and smuggled around. Normally in prelims the camera will follow the main character and that is where we need to make sure the audience don’t get confused.

Complicated props we are going to use

We are going to have a Range Rover in our opening
Credits, as well as a motorbike. This shows the wealth of our characters, and its helps build the characters and bring the audience into the piece.
We are going to use a motorbike for the ‘unknown’ man who is driving the bike through the high streets and around the back of the restaurant. This makes the piece slick and exciting. We are going to use one of the girls in our groups range rover and one of our media teachers has a bike and he is happy to ride it in our piece for us.

Poisoning Scene - Sherlock Holmes

This is also another scene that we looked at. We could use a flash back, like they have in this scene to make the poisoning scene more effective because we wont see the poison go onto the food, until the flash back when he starts going dizzy and begins to pass out. This makes the opening sequence more interesting too.

Poisoning Scene-Casino Royale

This is a scene that we found from Casino Royale (James Bond) We like the poisoning scene in this film and we want to take inspiration and ideas from it. After about 1 minute 30 seconds the video becomes irrelevant to our opening scene, but everything that happens before that is important and we are looking at ideas from it.

Brain storming what props we are going to use:

We also discussed what props we are going to use in the piece as well, and we made a list of them:
  • Corner shop.
  • Packet of cigarettes ( that fit the poison in.)
  • Deck of cards.( for men to play cards with.)
  • Café (chairs, tables, drinks, table cloth.)
  • Syringe (poison.)
  • Biker helpmate (leather biker costume)
  • Slick black motorbike.
  • Restaurant. ( cutlery, plates, glasses, bowls ect)
  • Plate of food. ( And others for less important characters.)
  • Waiters. (For café and restaurant, including costume. )
  • Chief costumes. (white hat ect )
  • Well-dressed spy man (slick, suit)
  • Slick car (range rover, Mercedes ect – blacked out windows, modern and technical.)
  • Alley way.(behind the restaurant )

Brain storming the character List

Today, in our lesson we went through the sort of characters that we want in our piece and we made a list of them :

Character List

  • Shopkeeper- short, quite large, has stubble (looks a bit rough and scruffy), middle aged, possibly Indian or Pakistani to eradicate suspicion by using a stereotype

  • ·      Old man- quite tall, smart, takes care over appearance, woolen jumper with white shirt and corduroy trousers.  Neat well cut moustache, spectacles with large thick lenses that are quite dated
  •   Young man (student)- around 24 years old,  stylish, slim, good-looking, fashionable clothing like, skinny jeans, jacket, smart shoes, well shaven and neatly combed hair
  •   Biker- mid 30’s, beard, skinny (slim), sleeve tattoo, piercings, black leather clothing, dark glasses.
  •    Chef- large man, late 20’s early 30’s, kitchen whites (clothing), white chef hat
  •   Waiter- Tall, young, smart, lean, combed back hair, black trousers, black jacket, waist coat, and white shirt, looks clean generally

  •   Spy- Broad shoulders, dark slicked back hair, olive skin (tanned), big eyebrows, big noes (almost has a jewish look to him) slim, healthy and kind looking man

Now we have brainstormed what we want our characters too look like, we can think about the sort of people that will fit well to the part.

Story Board Planning

In our last lesson my group and I did a rough sketch of a story board which gives us an idea of the characters that we are going to need and how the scenes are going to be set out. We changed some of the things in the story board so we have more change overs etc.

Here is the first page of our story board
second page of the story board.

We have taken inspiration for our story board and our opening title sequence from the film and TV series called ‘Miami Vice.’
